Brave shirtless men in the southern town of Taitung take turns sitting on a sedan carried by face-covered helpers. They parade around while blasts of firecrackers are being shot directly at them. The man on the sedan has only a banyan tree branch to protect him from the firecrackers. This is an honorable act for the men who proudly endure the ordeal. They believe it will bring them good fortune and wealth.
In the northern town of Pingxi, the night sky is lit up with a sea of bright lanterns. The participants make a wish and write it on the lanterns. They release them into the sky hoping that their wish comes true. Originally this was a way to communicate a warning signal between towns. [10:10]
